Tree of Life - Grand Oak Manor, Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary, Resort in Binsar

Tree of Life Grand Oak Manor is nestled a top the Kumaon hills (Uttarakhand), the Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary, 25 kilometres from Almora. It was in 1856 when the then British Commissioner of Kumaon, General Sir Henry Ramsay, cousin to Lord Dalhousie, the Viceroy of India, acquired this piece of land and built his private home. In 1931, the property was purchased by Rai Bahadur Harkishan Lal Sah Gangola and has stayed in the family since.

Today, we have reopened the doors of this exclusive hotel in Binsar for guests to offer them a taste of the old world charm and our hospitality.

The Rooms

Supporting the quaintness and beauty of the old world, the 11 hideaway rooms of 350 sq. ft. each, are lined along high ceilinged corridors. The teak wood furniture, bright bedspreads and rugs, and cozy fireside armchairs – are all reminiscent of genteel age.

Guest Appreciation

SeaFly2016
Our visit to the Tree of Life Grand Oak Manor was in the month of March when the weather was very pleasant, it is located inside the Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary. This is a colonial era residence which has been converted to a hotel and has been maintained in the colonial fashion. Very nice property, good staff, excellent food and comfortable rooms. You have good views of the Himalayan mountain range provided the visibility is favourable.

Located in Binsar this property is excellent for stay. The USP of Grand Oak is the food. It is delicious and mouth watering. Lots of options to choose from...You can have continental or traditional kumaoni thali or Indian cuisine. Snacks are just perfect. You can never get bored from eating here. Rooms are comfortable and good. Jio connection works pretty fine. Wifi is there but works in common area. You can sit there comfortably and do your work. The view outside the property is just amazing very good and clean breeze. Quiet and calm perfect place for solitude and to enjoy nature. The road to property is quite bumpy as it is narrow and rough but once you are there you can enjoy within the property or go to see zero point. Always carry odomoss or mosquito repellant during monsoon and wear full size cotton clothes only. Umbrella is a must as weather can change anytime. Windcheater also good idea to keep. This place is must visit if you want to enjoy nature and food admist chaos from city life. The place has a very tranquil and serene aura. Highly recommended.

There are 3 high altitude resorts within Binsar: Nine furlong, Mary Budden and Tree of Life, the 3rd was available and also most price effective. Gorgeous British bungalow with stunning views of Binsar forest. Lovely sunsets and sunrises to be caught. Staff was great and food was tasty. Seeing that it is located within Binsar forest they have managed to make stay comfortable. Only area of improvement would be room cleanliness. Linen seemed a little dated and could be changed.
